EQUESTRIAN-GEAR-RECOMMENDATIONSTo say horseback riding is a “gear heavy” sport would be an understatement (of the century). But, we all have limited time and resources to spend researching and buying tack, gear, and apparel. How do you make the most of it?

We share favorite brands, products, and even pre-made shopping lists that make it easy to find what you need.

Monthly Expense Reports

cost-horse-ownership-featuredYou’ve heard horses eat money… but how much? When it comes to owning a horse, it’s important to be prepared for the financial responsibility that comes with them. (OK, like parenting, you’re never “really” prepared for a horse.) Understanding the typical expenses ahead of time will help make sure you’re set up for success from day one.

That’s why I decided to publish monthly expense reports showing exactly where my horse money goes — and how I feel about it along the way. These reports are also a good way to benchmark your own spending, discover ways to save money, or find areas where it may be worth investing more.

Equestrian Media Guide

One of the best things you can do, whether you’re a Horse Rookie or Pro, is become part of a broader community. Vlogs, podcasts, blogs, and other social media provide some of the best (and easiest) ways to network with other equestrians and learn (a lot) along the way. But, how do you know who to follow, what to listen to, or what to watch?

Our Media Guide walks you through which vlogs, podcasts, and other media that should be on your playlist. Plus, we share specific episodes you should start with if you’re new to a particular channel or show.

College Road Trip

College-Equestrian-AdviceOur college experiences shape who we are, how we view the world, and our professional and personal futures. So do horses. Combining academics and equines? Talk about a match made in horse heaven!

That’s why we’re profiling equestrian athletes about life on college teams (english or western), what they’ve learned, and how they balance responsibilities at the barn and hitting the books.

Virtual Horse Book Club

As equestrians, we’re never done learning. While lessons, podcasts, and vlogs are great tools, good ‘ol fashioned books can’t be beat.

That’s why we created the Rookie Bookie Club, a virtual book club where we recommend one horse book per month for one year.
