Small Business Spotlight: Savvy’s Yard

Chief Rookie Aside: From time to time, we like to highlight equine-inspired small businesses and the great work they’re doing. Read on to learn more about this family-owned business in the UK!

At its heart, Savvy’s Yard is a truly inspired by horse and country living. That’s why we’re so passionate about sourcing and producing a boutique selection of the best gifts, jewellery, and homeware for equine and country lifestyles.

The family-friendly business was founded by Adam and Tracey in 2018 at their country home in Mark, Somerset, UK. They began their journey as bloggers who documented the many adventures of Tracey and her cheeky horse Savvy as the pair learned the ropes of British eventing.

Their blog also included tales about the young couple’s experience renovating their country cottage. More recently, they welcomed Daisy, their adorable now-6-month-old baby girl.

Readers followed along as the couple honed their skills during the cottage’s loving restoration. Using English elm wood, the couple even hand-crafted their own coffee table to give them the quaint country look they were after.

Their followers loved the hand-crafted table so much that they received a request to make a similar bespoke table for a reader. Inspired by those efforts, Adam and Tracey went on to expand their suite of products, such as their kitchen roll holder, many of which have become staples in their online store.

As their fan base grew, and word spread about their craftsmanship, they decided to transform the blog into a lifestyle brand — and Savvy’s Yard was born. Gathering inspiration from their life in the country and, of course, Savvy, they bring customers gifts they typically can’t find anywhere else.

One of their most impressive items is the beautiful hand-crafted tack holder set. Made from lovely chunky oak, the saddle stand and bridle/helmet rack enhance any tack room. The pieces feature small splits within the wood, which have Dutchmen joints to prevent further splitting, while also adding to the appearance.

Plus, both the bridle/helmet holder and saddle stand retain live/waney edges.

The wood slab is locally sourced from a specialised timber merchant. A reclaimed oak railway sleeper shapes the saddle bracket, hat rack, and bridle hook. All fixtures and fittings are hidden on the back sides of the tack holder so not to interrupt the natural look of the set.

Savvy’s Yard shares new content with their following regularly (usually three to five times per week). Posts often discuss what Savvy has been up to during the week, her latest rides and events, etc. They also include updates about country cottage renovations like building a new patio area and garden landscaping. Finally, followers learn the latest news from the workshop, including heads up about new products and, of course, Daisy!

Coronavirus has affected the whole world, and the UK is currently on lockdown. Savvy’s Yard has continued working hard and safely from home to keep their customers happy and orders fulfilled. Although overall orders have inevitably been lower as a result of the global situation, there has also been a rise in customers ordering gifts to be sent directly to their loved ones.

Adam and Tracey have even been writing cards on behalf of customers who want to add a personal touch to their gifts.

In Savvy’s Yard online store, you’ll find everything from the Savvy the horse doorstop, a cute faux leather doorstop, to a stunning collection of equine jewellery, including a hand-made selection of horse hair jewellery. You’ll also find a gorgeous collection of exclusive gifts for the country home, such as their horse shoe coat rack.

The result is a fascinating collection of unique homeware and lifestyle accessories inspired by equine and country living!
